This richly diverse exhibition takes the work of 10 New Zealand artists to the Seville Expo ’92. It is the product of an initiative by three of the exhibiting artists, James Ross, Tony Lane and Gavin Chilcott, with the support of the Sarjeant Gallery.

A major retrospective of Wellington textile designer and artist Gordon Crook. The exhibition comprises more than 70 works representing the range of Crook’s work in book art, collage, drawing, letter art, painting, paper casts, photomontage, printmaking and tapestry.

Room for Error also relaunched a programme of Australian artists’ projects and exhibitions at City Gallery Wellington in its new building in Civic Square.

Te Whare Puanga celebrates the recent creative work of women in Wellington based in traditional Māori and Pacific Island cultures but extending into contemporary forms of artistic expression. Mats, baskets, cloaks, hats, tukutuku, tivaevae and other items display both common links and differences between these two communities.

Alter / Image assesses recent New Zealand art and its relation to contemporary feminism by selecting key moments in the last 20 years of practice by New Zealand women in the visual arts, performance, film and video. Curated by Christina Barton and City Gallery Wellington's Deborah Lawler-Dormer, Alter / Image includes work by 20 artists. It is a timely project for the 1993 Suffrage Centennial Year.

Rosemarie Trockel is the international component of the inaugural programme for City Gallery Wellington's move to new premises. Like the concurrent City Gallery Wellington exhibitions Te Whare Puanga, Alter/Image and He Tohu, Rosemarie Trockel addresses contemporary post-colonial and feminist debates.
