Bill Culbert finds his subject matter in the lux, lumen and colour of light in an industrial world. Lightworks provides an in-depth look at his art practice in the 1990s. This includes large format black and white photographs, installation light works and wall-based object pieces. The exhibition reveals Culbert’s attention to the poetry of everyday objects, as well as his systematic calibration of light’s changing conditions. The exhibition demonstrates the richness and diversity of Culbert’s mechanics and rhetorics of light.
A joint venture project between City Gallery Wellington and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth. Supported by the Rutherford Trust, British Council and Creative New Zealand.
