Cuttings From the Centre

15 November - 8 December 1996 in the Entire Gallery
The Architectural Centre has had a fundamental impact on the shaping of Wellington and on the development of architecture, art and design in this country. Cuttings from the Centre celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of such activity. The Architectural Centre has traditionally used exhibitions as a means to present ideas and initiate discussion. With this exhibition the Centre returns to the site of its first exhibition. In 1948 Te Aro Replanned was exhibited to record numbers at the Public Library - that building is now City Gallery Wellington.

This history of the Architectural Centre involves City Gallery Wellington as an institution as well as a building. In the mid to late 80’s the Centre worked to get architecture exhibited in Wellington’s institutions and one outcome of these efforts was a series of collaborative projects with City Gallery Wellington. Cuttings from the Centre is the latest of these.
