The exhibition includes significant works by masters such as Van Gogh, Cezanne and Picasso through to Pollock and Judd and acclaimed contemporary artsists, including Julian Schnabel and Jeff Koons.
This was the second project which has involved a collaboration between City Gallery Wellington and the Stedelijk Museum, following Under Capricorn: The World Over in 1996. The relationship between City Gallery Wellington and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam was further enhanced by the late addition of Colin McCahon’s painting North Otago Landscape to the exhibition. Gifted to the Stedelijk by prominent arts patron Jenny Gibbs, the inclusion of the work in this prestigious collection has prompted a major retrospective of McCahon’s work to be scheduled at the Stedelijk.
