Gerhard Richter: Survey

12 October - 1 December 2002 in the Entire Gallery

Gerhard Richter is one of Germany's best known artists in the international art world. Gerhard Richter: Survey is an internationally touring exhibition showing a selection of work compiled by the artist himself. Comprising 27 major works, the exhibition provides insight into all of Richter's creative phases: from his '60s photo paintings to his abstract paintings of the 1980s and 1990s. As one writer has recently commented, "behind all the various motifs, stylistic approaches and art-historical references, Gerhard Richter's great and only subject is ultimately painting itself, whose language and resources he has interrogated in constantly new ways". Gerhard Richter: Survey offers New Zealand audiences a unique opportunity to see work by one of Europe's foremost contemporary artists

Gerhard Richter: Survey is a touring exhibition presented by Germany’s Institut fur Auslandsbeziehungen (Institute for Foreign Cultural Affairs) in co-operation with the Goethe-Institut Inter Nationes Wellington.
