Anahera Te Pono narrates the ‘faithful brown angel’ Anahera’s spiritual journey to freedom. With her fourteen sandstone tablets high on the wall, Hariata Ropata Tangahoe reinvents the Christian tradition of the Stations of the Cross, and turns the gallery into a chapel. By following the tablets around the gallery the viewer accompanies Anahera on her journey out of ‘entrapment and torture to redemption’, as Lindsay Rabbitt writes.
