Postmark: an artist's project by Gabby O'Connor

22 January - 20 February 2005 in the Hirschfeld Gallery

Featuring Katharine Allard, Vanessa Crowe, Diana Goodwin, Chelsea Gough, Georgiana Morison, Lisa Munnelly, Genevieve Packer, Sarah Jane Parton, Pippa Sanderson, Sandra Schmidt and Leanne Williams

Wellington artist Gabby O’Connor has been travelling the world for the last seven months. Before she left she established an art project that would enable her to work with eleven artists and designers back in Wellington: Katharine Allard, Vanessa Crowe, Diana Goodwin, Chelsea Gough, Georgiana Morison, Lisa Munnelly, Genevieve Packer,Sarah Jane Parton, Pippa Sanderson, Sandra Schmidt and Leanne Williams. Each fortnight she would send one artist an artwork that she had constructed, using transit lounges, trains, planes and temporary accommodation as her art studio. The eleven artists were invited to make work in response to what O’Connor sent them—either incorporating her work into their own work, or using it as a starting point for the creation of a new work. The Postmark exhibition at the Michael Hirschfeld Gallery brings together the results of this project.
