Louise Bourgeois has defined beauty as ‘a series of experiences’. It is the sensory seduction, the intellectual epiphany, the coming together of mind and body in a glimpsed intensity which is beautiful because it eludes permanent capture. The artists in Practising Beauty—Catherine Bagnall, Kathy Barry, Emma Febvre-Richards and Maddie Leach—explore both the construction of beauty as an active part of artistic practice, and the beauty suffused in the practice of viewing art.
