Without a collection of its own, the City Gallery's reputation as a significant national and international venue for contemporary art is carried by its publications. Catalogues form a permanent record of an exhibition, bringing its contemporary ideas and historical significance to wide public attention. Catalogues have a longer lifespan than the exhibition, forming a resource for the future long after the exhibition has closed.
