Surprise - New Work by 18 Wellington Designers

Surprise explores the strength and creativity of Wellington design. Eighteen designers working in a range of fields—including fashion, architecture, interior, graphic, web, industrial, theatre, lighting and sound design—have been invited to contribute to this exhibition with new work based around the theme of surprise. The resulting works reflect, and in many cases creatively stretch, the participants’ design practices as they reconsider their interests and expertise for a gallery context.

This exhibition follows the first Surprise exhibition of Christmas 2000 which sampled the current work of twenty-four of Wellington’s visual artists. In keeping with the 360 programme’s mandate, this ongoing series of annual group exhibitions celebrates the breadth and diversity of Wellington art and design today.
