Junior Sculpture Trail

Ongoing | Years 1-3

Join us for a sculpture trail through Te Ngākau Civic Square to the City to Sea Bridge, discovering stories of Wellington’s history along the way. Listen to the legend of Ngāke and Whataitai, and go on a te reo Māori treasure hunt to find shapes/auaha and symbols/tohu. In the education studio, arrange and rearrange a multitude of shapes to create designs inspired by Para Matchitt’s carved sculptures. A great workshop to experiment and play with the endless possibilities of picture making.  Bring a camera to capture your creations.

This trail is ideal for making crosscurricular connections between visual arts, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Histories, and reo Māori.
