Following their sell-out workshop series in Auckland, typ gr ph c designers Catherine Griffiths and Tino Grass are in town to give a public lecture discussing “type and diversity ... a journey into other spaces”, design, typography, publishing and art-based projects.
Catherine first encountered the design work of Tino Graß at TypeSHED11, an international typography symposium held in Wellington at Shed 11 in 2009. His typographic project was included in the Type Director’s Club exhibition brought out from New York for the symposium.
About the speakers:
Catherine Griffiths is a designer and typographer, who lives and works in Auckland and Paris. Her work is a mix of visual communication, book design, self-publishing, typography installations in public and private spaces, and writing on design. Her most publicly-recognised work is the Wellington Writers Walk, a series of large-scale concrete text sculptures. www.catherinegriffiths.co.nz
Tino Grass is a designer and typographer who lives and works in Cologne, Germany, where he runs a studio for Visual Communication. He teaches Visual Communication and Typography in several universities for art and design (Fachhochschule Düsseldorf, École Supérieure d‘aArt de Metz Métropole, Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten, den Haag) and works closely with artists and designers of note. Current work includes a project with students designing a temporary way-finding system for the upcoming Sigmar Polke exhibition at the Ludvig Museum, Cologne
