How To Be A Friend

10 December 2005 - 29 January 2006 in the Hirschfeld Gallery

New Wellington artists:

Elizabeth Allan & Dorothy Irvine, Tim Armstrong, Kyly Ashman & Mike Marsh & Chantelle Waring , Sandy Gibbs, Caroline Johnston, Rebecca Pilcher, Sarah Stevens and Jemma Woolmore.

How To Be A Friend presents recent artwork by emerging Wellington artists. Although their work takes different forms, from drawing to moving image, the artists in How To Be A Friend are all interested in the realm of the social: relationships between people and the negotiations these relationships often require.

How To Be A Friend offers no quick fix or manual for community living. Instead it explores the complexity of living alongside others, and the intricate web of networks which connect an individual to the world.
