Ongoing Education Programmes for All Ages

City Gallery Explorer1 hour. Visit and explore all of our new galleries and exhibitions at City Gallery and take part in gallery based activities. A great introduction to contemporary art and art galleries for all year levels.

Drawing in the Gallery1.5 hours. Be inspired by a selection of artworks at City Gallery, and develop your own creative responses to them while experimenting with different drawing techniques.

Ongoing Education Programmes for specific Year levels

Speaking Pictures: 45 mins, Yrs 1-3. Listen to, create and tell stories inspired by artworks at City Gallery Wellington. A great introduction to contemporary art and art galleries for our younger visitors.

Creative and Critical Thinking Skills: 1 hour, Yrs 4-8 and 9-10. Take part in activities, discussions and games to develop students€™ creative and critical thinking skills in response to a selection of artworks at City Gallery.

Research and Critical Analysis: 1.5 hours, Yrs 11-13. Develop students critical analysis and research skills by participating in activities and discussions in response to a selection of artworks at City Gallery.

Ongoing Outdoor Education Programmes, Summer terms only

Maori Mythology and Public Sculpture:1.5 hours, all ages. Find out how Māori legends are told through public sculpture in and around Civic Square and take part in observational and drawing activities inspired by the artworks.

Public Sculpture Trail: 1.5 hours, all ages. Discover different types of public sculpture in and around Civic Square and the waterfront, making drawings and taking part in activities along the way.

All programmes are $2 per student for a Gallery tour only and $3 per student for a Gallery tour and practical art-making session in the Education Studio.
