City Gallery notes with sadness the recent passing of acclaimed Australian painter Gordon Bennett. Two of his works were included in the 2011 exhibition Roundabout at City Gallery.
Richard Bell, who also featured in that exhibition, pays tribute to his fellow Australian artist in the Guardian, "Sadly, Gordon died when his work was gaining significant ground internationally. He is one of a few Australian artists who is taken seriously abroad. In 2012 he showed in Documenta 13, and his work is being shown in the current Berlin Biennale," he says, "In time, victory will be his. The humanity, beauty, vulnerability and strength of his work, all qualities he embodied as a human being, will continue to communicate to audiences for centuries to come."
