'Most children draw. I just forgot to stop,' William Kentridge.
The Refusal of Time is a half-hour long, five-channel video installation by the Johannesburg-based artist William Kentridge (and collaborators) featuring processions of shadowy figures projected around the walls. Inspired by this immersive artwork, students devised dramatic silhouettes and performed a shadow parade. They used cardboard and tape to craft their exaggerated silhouettes. Then performed a looping procession behind a giant shadow screen striking poses, creating narratives; walking, dancing, marching to same rhythmic soundtrack that they heard inside the installation.
