Slotted shape sculptures inspired by Eva Rothschild

'I use segmentation a lot, building something from repeated units, so that there’s almost a suggestion that they can be taken apart. In a way I never think of a piece as a unified whole,' Eva Rothschild.

Students observed the repetition of materials, shapes and colours used by Eva Rothschild to create her sculptures in the exhibition Kosmos. In the gallery students experimented with arranging and re-arranging sets of patterned cards to create multiple larger shapes. Then in the education studio they decorated black card with coloured tape patterns, which they then cut into sets of slotted shapes. They assembled and disassembled then rebuilt their sets of slotted card shapes into many differently configurated sculptures.
