Take a journey around Matarau and Wish You Were Here and discover works by two artists who’ve used cars as their subject. Glen Hayward’s Toyota Corolla is more than meets the eye—a life-sized recreation, hand-carved from wood and recalled from childhood memories, while Ming Ranginui presents a ready-made Daihatsu as a vehicle to comment on identity and social issues.

Students discuss a range of sculptural conventions, then construct, modify, and personalise their own miniature cardboard car. They’ll experiment with materials to express their own ideas and identity, drawing inspiration from a range of artistic styles and motivations seen throughout the exhbitions.
