The Art and Science of Sound
555 Moons is a sensory feast for the eyes and ears by art/music ensemble From Scratch which spans art, music, performance, and film. It is an inspiring exhibition with art, music, science, and technology links. Students will explore intriguing invented instruments and activate their senses by listening to the vibrational sounds of From Scratch, who have performed around the world, inspired by the sounds, cycles, and geological rhythms of their home in Aotearoa and the Pacific. They’ll take part in a range of activities to predict and test the sound-making potential of everyday materials, and discover links between visual art and sound. Students will make drums from every-day materials to create and perform rhythms.
