This learning experience begins at Te Waka Huia o Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho Wellington Museum. Ākonga explore the knowledges of ringatoi Māori from the Wellington region, and the life and warmth of taonga in Te Ohonga exhibition.

Your class then take a short walk to City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi where they make connections to five contemporary artists who work with an array of materials. A workshop follows for ākonga to explore whakapapa, taonga and value by making a sculptural memento using a range of precious materials.

This is a rich offering and a rare opportunity! We recommend that you extend your visit to a full-day to get the most from the experience.

This programme is ideal for making curriculum connections among visual arts, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Histories, and te ao Māori.
