Students can experience af Klint’s abstract paintings and notebooks, delving into a world of rich symbolism in The Secret Paintings. Hilma af Klint’s quest to explore the visible and invisible mysteries of the world through art is a perfect starting point for student enquiry and exploration.
Swedish artist Hilma af Klint was a pioneer of abstract art but for many years her paintings were kept secret – their recent rediscovery has changed the course of art history. Working at the turn of the twentieth century, af Klint created paintings that were monumental in scale, with radiant colour combinations, enigmatic symbols, and otherworldly shapes.
