Julia Holden will be in the Gallery to give an illustrated talk for NCEA students. She’ll discuss her painting practice, her influences, and a range of techniques and processes including painting performances in which she paints well-known portraits directly onto the bodies of other artists, treating them as living canvases. Her work can be seen in our new exhibition Every Artist, a show where artists delve into and reveal their own artistic genealogies. Celebrating the ways artists connect across time, Sam Clague becomes Rita Angus’s Leo Bensemann and Audrey Baldwin becomes the Guerrilla Girls (already parodying Ingres’s La Grande Odalisque).
