Join us for a sculpture trail to explore a range of public sculptures around the Gallery, in Te Ngākau Civic Square and on the City to Sea Bridge. Listen to the legend of Ngāke and Whataitai, and go on a te reo Māori treasure hunt to find shapes/auaha and symbols/tohu. Look at materials and techniques and consider the context of the surrounding environment. A great tour to discover the stories behind some iconic sculptures, revealing local history and Māori legends from Wellington/Te Whanganui-ā-Tara.
This trail is ideal for making cross–curricular connections between visual arts, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Histories, and reo Māori.
