Picturing Science at City Gallery and Space Place

23 March–14 July

Join us at City Gallery and Space Place for an inspiring day of STEAM learning.

At City Gallery, explore Semiconductor: The Technological Sublime to discover visually spectacular video works informed by scientific data and technology. Semiconductor, an artist duo from the UK, delve into unseen and unseeable worlds, making the invisible visible. Their subjects range from the earth to the sky, from the ultrabig to the ultrasmall, from celestial activity—the surface of the sun—to the trajectories of subatomic particles. Students will share ideas about the work and take part in a workshop to make the invisible visible, visualizing magnetic fields and creating their own beautiful representation using cyanotype paper and our UV lightbox.

At Space Place, explore technologies scientists use to see micro and macro worlds. Take a tour of Space Place’s functioning telescopes and learn about their inner workings to picture science in a new light. Students will also explore the ‘micro cosmos’ through simple microscopes. In our planetarium show, find out about global collaborations in astronomy and look at how astronomers use different wavelengths of light to uncover the mysteries of the Universe.

Cable car charges may apply, please contact us for more information.
