Discover the stories behind public sculptures around the Gallery, in Te Ngākau Civic Square, and on the City to Sea Bridge. Listen to the pūrākau of Ngake and Whātaitai, and go on a reo Māori treasure hunt to find āhua (shapes) and tohu (symbols). An optional gallery workshop extends the trail to include either a sculpture or design workshop for older age groups. Younger learners arrange geometric shapes to explore symbolism and composition.
This experience is ideal for learning more about Te Whanganui-ā-Tara and making curricular connections among visual arts, Te Ao Tangata, and reo Māori.
