What happens when artists from different cultures encounter each other’s work? Join us for discussions and activities in Split Level View Finder: Theo Schoon and New Zealand Art to find out more. Students will encounter paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, and carvings by Theo Schoon and other NZ artists including Gordon Walters and Paratene Matchitt. Students will discuss the differences between inspiration and appropriation, think about how a shape can also be a symbol, and take part in a printmaking workshop.
You may want to combine a visit to Split Level View Finder: Theo Schoon and New Zealand Art at City Gallery with a visit to Gordon Walters New Vision (15 June – 13 October) at Te Papa.
