Join us for activities and discussions to discover what happens when artists from different cultures encounter each other’s work. Think about where artists get their ideas from and discuss the differences between inspiration and appropriation. Listen to the legend of Hine-Pu-Te-Hue the goddess of gourds and take part in a silk-screen printmaking workshop, to decorate a hue/gourd. Learn the difference between a shape and a symbol and arrange letter symbols into a pattern with hidden meaning, using reflection, rotation and repetition, some of the design principles found in traditional kōwhaiwhai
