BWB Talks: The Broken Estate: Journalism and Democracy in a Post-Truth World (POSTPONED)

23 March 2020

This event has been postponed.

Dire warnings of the global collapse of the Fourth Estate come amid a potential major shake-up of the media in Aotearoa. Proposed mergers of our biggest media companies and public broadcasters are on the agenda, alongside a pressing need for free, fair, and trustworthy journalism ahead of the general election. Where to from here for our media in a world of fake news and industry upheaval? Mel Bunce and Patrick Crewdson discuss the state of the broken estate and the solutions needed to ensure its future.

Originally from New Zealand, Mel Bunce researches and teaches journalism at City, University of London. She is the author of The Broken Estate: Journalism and Democracy in a Post-Truth World.

Patrick Crewdson is Stuff's Editor in Chief. He was named Editorial Executive of the Year at the 2019 Voyager Media Awards, and next month will depart on the Wolfson Fellowship to study at Cambridge University.

In partnership with Bridget Williams Books.
