For Julia Holden’s series I’m Your Fan, artists wear their influences on their sleeves. In these performances, Holden paints semblances of other artists' portraits directly onto artists, treating them as living canvases, then photographs them. Celebrating the ways artists connect across time, Sam Clague becomes Rita Angus's Leo Bensemann and Audrey Baldwin becomes the Guerrilla Girls (already parodying Ingres's La Grande Odalisque). On the opening day of Every Artist, Holden will transform Emily Hartley-Skudder into a hybrid of Liz Maw's paintings Self Portrait and Blue Girl (itself a nod to Thomas Gainsborough’s The Blue Boy, 1770).
