In the shadowy wasteland of Civic Square, we’re conjuring a symphony of horrors...
Join City Gallery Wellington in celebrating F.W Murnau's silent cinematic classic, Nosferatu, on its 100th anniversary. This special midnight screening is accompanied by a live re-score by Tāmaki Makaurau based musician Darryn Harkness.
Performing on bowed guitar and piano with live looping, his re-score weaves a haunting sonic accompaniment to the spine-tingling, high-gothic vision of the film—an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula—that cemented the figure of the vampire within cinematic history and the cultural imagination.
Gallery doors will open at 11pm. Film starts at the stroke of midnight.
Bar service will be available prior to the screening with pre-show entertainment for a monstrously good time.
A producer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist, Darryn Harkness is known for his groups New Telepathics, Loud Ghost, King Ketchup, Spacesuit and Serafin (UK). Harkness has been a member of From Scratch for 26 years and is a member of Hallelujah Picassos and the Andrew Fagan band. He has been performing alongside screenings of Nosferatu since 2007 in venues throughout the UK, Germany and New Zealand, including for sell-out performances at The Edinburgh Festival and Auckland Arts Festival.
Presented as part of the public programme associated with Josh Azzarella: Triple Feature.
