ULTRAWILD
An Audacious Plan to Rewild Every City on Earth
Steve Mushin
Steve Mushin is an industrial designer and visual artist working in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia. His book of design-thought-experiments for transforming cities, Ultrawild (Allen & Unwin, November 2023) argues that rewilding cities into habitats for all species is far more plausible than it may sound.
Steve has over 20 years’ experience working on real-world and speculative design projects. Recent works include a soil-science based adventure playground in Melbourne with a steampunk mechanical millipede the size of a bus, collaborating with scientists to imagine 3D-printing buildings with algae-based bioplastics, and with engineers to imagine launching flying bicycles with waste heat from cities (all possible).
In 2015 Stephen was awarded an Australian Design Honours for his work in sustainability design.
City Talks is an ongoing series initiated by the New Zealand Institute of Architects Wellington Branch and presented in partnership with City Gallery Wellington.
The talk will be followed by refreshments.
