Opening Day Talks: Ahsin Ahsin in Conversation with Israel Randell

Saturday 3 February, 1pm

Come together and celebrate the opening of our Summer exhibition season. Join us for an afternoon of programmes offering a deeper understanding of artworks and artists as we explore three new shows, Ahsin Ahsin: Turbo Croc 2.0, Julia Morison: Ode to Hilma and Michael Mahne Lamb: Through Points.

Join curator Israel Randell and multidisciplinary artist Ahsin Ahsin for a discussion about Turbo Croc 2.0, a new series of works that riffs off the evolution of his ‘Croc’ character. Croc — a half human/half crocodile hybrid — was born out of his research into amphora black-figure vase paintings.

Since 2018, Ahsin has expanded the entourage of Croc characters to include robo croc, black figure croc and flamboyant & thicc croc. Turbo Croc 2.0 showcases a new mural work which reunites the band of ‘crocs’, alongside a collection of recent paintings that return to his interest in the vase form and its ability to hold stories.
