End the school holidays on a creative note at the Gallery with workshops for creative kids aged 5–14 years.

Choose from six sessions exploring different mediums and be inspired by the exhibition Cindy Sherman.

All workshops suit beginners to more experienced learners from 5–14 years. Meeting place in the foyer of City Gallery Wellington, Civic Square.

All workshops are held in the Gallery’s Education Studio, upstairs. Craftcamp is run by Wellington artist Gabby O'Connor.

Craftcamp Loves Cindy Sherman—Portraits Portraits Portraits!

Tuesday 24 January

All Day Sculpture Workshop | 10am–4pm

Thinking about traditional sculptural portraits, but using non traditional techniques and materials.

Bring a photo of your chosen subject—yourself, or a significant person, and together we will make a head and shoulders [bust] sculpture.

Wednesday 25 January

10am–12.30pm
Mini Character Softies: Make one, make many! Using recycled and surplus fabric from the local fashion industry, we will hand sew mini character portraits that make great gifts or decorations! No experience necessary. FULL

1.30–4pm
Cardboard Portraiture: Using cardboard and brown paper, we will mix 2D and 3D strategies to make new versions of ourselves! Hot glue, tape, scissors and imagination will be used! FULL

Thursday 26 January

10am–12.30pm
Water Colour Portraits: We will use liquid watercolours to explore tone, shade and volume to create single colour character portraits. FULL

1.30–4pm
Fabric Portrait Collages: We will start with drawing a picture of ourselves in disguise that we will turn into unique fabric wall hanging. No sewing—but lots of cutting and sticking and imagination required! FULL

Friday 27 January

All Day Workshop, 10am–4pm

You Choose Friday: Using all available materials in the Craftcamp stash, you will design your ultimate project using hand sewing, painting, sculpture, drawing and I will help you to make it!
