Square Eyes School Hols Screenings: Long Shorts

8 October 2020

We share two celebrated films based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler much-loved picture books, The Snail and the Whale, back by popular demand after last holiday’s sold-out session, and animated swashbuckler The Highway Rat, onscreen for the very first time in New Zealand.

The Highway Rat
UK | Max Lang and Jan  Lachauer | 2017 | 27min | G
A rollicking tale of a greedy rat who craves buns, biscuits, and candies. With his loyal horse, he rampages along the highway feasting on anything he can, but will his sweet tooth lead him to a sticky end? Starring Rob Brydon, Tom Hollander, Nina Sosanya, David Tennant, and Frances de la Tour.

The Snail and the Whale
UK | Max Lang and Daniel Snaddon | 2019 | 27min | G
A snail longs to see the world and hitches a lift on a whale's tail. Together they go on an amazing journey, past icebergs and volcanoes, sharks and penguins, and the snail feels very small in the vastness of the world. But when the whale is beached in a bay, it's the tiny snail who saves the day. Starring Rob Brydon, Sally Hawkins, Dame Diana Rigg, and Cariad Lloyd.
