Stay up late with City Gallery Wellington! Enjoy our changing programme of art, music, film, and talks on the first Thursday of every month.
Kick start your long weekend with April Open Late.
Journey through the world bending practice of Reuben Paterson as our quide takes you through our newest exhibition The Only Dream Left. Be seduced by the lavish colours, forms, and materials that harness the transformational properties of light in this, the largest exhibition to date of Paterson’s work. Enter this imaginary playground of encounters, experiences and provocations whilst our guide uncovers what sit's beneath it's glittery surface.
Throughout the evening, grab a drink and drop-in to our still life drawing activity. Taking our cue from the art historical genre of still life, put pencil to paper while studying our arrangement of flowers and fruit. Supported by Gordon Harris.
What is painting now and what does it mean to paint and be a painter in this present moment? Offering a point of departure to these big questions, join exhibiting artist Martin Basher for an illustrated lecture, as he shares a selection of paintings which have recently caught his attention, and hear what it is about these works that excites and draws him in.
From 7pm, dance the night away in front of Reuben Paterson’s sparkling artwork Te Maiea. Borrow a set of headphones and tune in to the ecstatic sounds of DJ Elastic Coitus, as they guide you through a celebration of queer dance music history.
All this along with our regular fixtures; Tuatara beers, delicious wine, food truck and sounds from a RadioActive DJ.
