Tuatara Open Late

Thursday 7 September, 5pm-10pm | $10-$12

Experience City Gallery Wellington after-hours with Open Late. Let your curiosity take hold, explore our exhibitions and enjoy our changing programme of art, music, screenings, and talks on the first Thursday of the month.

This September, take time to enjoy and explore our current suite of exhibitions. Reflect on your experience with our Highlights Tour and Book Club and tune in to our drop-in drawing to live music exercise. End your night with an entrancing musical journey with violinist Tristan Carter.

Get your ticket to Wellington’s best Thursday here for $10 or $12 at the door.

Get hands on with rolling sessions of drop-in drawing. Taking advantage of an empty gallery between exhibitions, award-winning teenage horn-driven, long-haired funk band Mel Stevenson will fill and energise the space with free-flowing jazz. Feel the music to guide and inspire your sketching.

Join our expert tour guide for a closer look at our current exhibitions. Spend time with selected artworks in each exhibition with this deeper dive for insight into the artists’ work and what drives the ideas that inform their practices.

City Gallery Wellington’s occasional Book Club returns to explore the ideas and theme behind George Watson: Beauty Incarnate. Join us to hear writers Anahera Gildea, Arihia Latham, and Rangimarie Sophie Jolley speak to what it means to inherit the legacy of Mansfield and other colonial writers, as authors in Aotearoa today.

End your night an intimate performance by Tristan Carter. Tristan Carter is a Wellington based violinist, composer, and field recordist. Alongside session work and free improvisation, he plays in a variety of ensembles and a popular collaborator for theatre, dance, and film/TV in New Zealand. This performance will be held in the Adam Auditorium. Space is limited in this venue and there is no assigned seating. Arrive early to avoid disappointment.

All this along with our regular fixtures; Tuatara beers, Matahiwi estate wine, food truck and sounds from a RadioActive DJ.
