Art, music, film, books, beer, wine and food. Explore the Cindy Sherman exhibition after hours. December Tuatara Open Late line up includes My Favourite Cindy, City Gallery Book Club and live music as well as supper treats and a cash bar.
Timetable:
6pm: My Favourite Cindy
Artist Fiona Pardington, fashion professor Vicki Karaminas, broadcaster Charlotte Graham and clown Thomas LaHood give quick-fire talks on their favourite works from Cindy Sherman.
7.30pm: City Gallery Book Club
Cindy Sherman is a master of masquerade, constantly transforming her own image. Emily Perkins and the City Gallery Book Club—Megan Dunn, Pip Adam and Chris Tse—address themes of transformation through the books Orlando by Virginia Woolf, The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson and Sheila Heti et al.’s Women in Clothes. When does disguise become transformation? Is transformation a deep human impulse? How might we think about authenticity and transformation? Is time the great transformer? Can you be transformed by a pair of shoes, someone else’s clothes, or a haircut? Read the books ahead of time or just enjoy the lively conversation.
Live Music
5–8.30pm and 9.15–10pm: The DJ collective the SheJays playing a selection of Sherman-inspired tunes
8.30–9.15pm: Enjoy a live performance from Estère, 'empress of electric-blue witch-hop'.
There will be supper treats from La Boca Loca and a cash bar serving Tuatara beers, Seresin wine, Six Barrel Sodas and Mela juices.
