Gabby O’Connor: What Lies Beneath

2 July–31 July 2011

A giant iceberg hangs from the gallery ceiling. Made from blue semi-opaque tissue paper stiffened with shellac, Gabby O’Connor's structure captures natural light that enters via an overhead light well, saturating the space with blue light as if we are submerged underwater. The Wellington artist invites us to consider the effects of climate change—the prospect of rising sea levels due to melting land-based ice.
