Palestinian artist and gallerist Khaled Hourani had a dream: to borrow a modernist masterpiece—Pablo Picasso’s Buste de Femme (1943), from Eindhoven’s Van Abbemuseum—and show it in the International Academy of Art in Ramallah. Given the limitations on Palestinian sovereignty, what would have otherwise been a straightforward museum loan took on a political, diplomatic, and military character, in the process illuminating the reality of life under occupation. The exhibition took place in 2011. This film, Picasso in Palestine (2012) tells the story.
